Despite mounting evidence and nearly two decades having passed, the Inge Lotz murder case remains unresolved, and not a single suspect has been charged. In 2023, four years after new leads surfaced, the Hawks have yet to approach any of the five alleged murder suspects.
Determined to break through the silence, author and former investigator Alan D Elsdon filed criminal charges against five police officers involved in the original 2005–2007 investigation. He alleges that these officers committed blatant perjury during the 2007 trial of Fred van der Vyver.
Three weeks ago, Elsdon took things further—laying additional charges of “Attempt to Defeat the Ends of Justice” against two prominent individuals tied to the original case: a retired SA Police Director and a senior NPA public prosecutor based in Cape Town.
Elsdon believes that bringing these parties to justice is crucial to unlocking the truth behind Inge Lotz’s murder. His frustration is compounded by the NPA's unwillingness to pursue criminal charges against high-profile figures like former President Jacob Zuma, while remaining inert on a case with overwhelming indications of official misconduct.
